Acting as an escalation point for high priority tech issues.
Project managing tech upgrades, changes, and discontinuations
Supporting cyber initiatives.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes - taking ownership of UK and Ireland projects/initiatives.
Encouraged to share ideas and can initiate opportunities for self-starter projects.
Working as the UK component for a global rollout; leading operations, with freedom to choose how rollout is completed.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Quite a lot; very attentive and present managers. Direct team and wider team were open to questions and always willing to support. As a tech intern you are also given a contact manager, who is there for any non work related issues/queries you aren't comfortable asking your line manager about.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very friendly atmosphere. Extremely easy to teams message someone for a chat to network, or even to approach someone in the office. There is flexible working, and enough trust to not micromanage your online time - you aren't judged/frowned at for choosing to leave and hour early, as you are trusted to make up the time elsewhere.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

A mix - very useful corporate experience has been gained, as well as a huge development in soft skills. However, students from technical backgrounds (specifically around computer science) will find that the role is very business focused. You work between the business and technical teams, so never actually on the product itself - the company itself outsources most of its technical computer science/software engineering roles.
