Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The job was 100% Lab based, role involved application of fragrance oils in bases. tracking down shipments or sending out shipments. Handling all consumer tested products and carrying out all the crash testing for finished products. Evaluating any products for evaluators and perfumers, either through fragrance booth to test bloom, hair swatching testing or even washing machine testing

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I had alot of responsibilities as a placement student, in the beginning, I started with compounding, which is very much making the oils. then I progressed to application and evaluation. Which is 2 roles in one, as it was a fairly small team, there is a lot to do and a lot if responsibilities' to carry out.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

At the beginning, I felt like I had very minimal support and struggled but when I moved to the application and Evaluation department and changed Line Manager, it was a complete 180 and had a lot of help and guidance. It was really great support and training then, but it was a shame it was 2 months after I started

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company as a whole is amazing, they do many work place activities. You can get involved in different runs and clubs, that can make you be exposed to different people and departments which is really cool.
The company brand as a whole is very focused on its part in sustainability and product impact on environments and I find that amazing. the top priority for Unilever are consumers, employees, investors, suppliers, and the communities they impact.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

At first, in all honesty, I didn't enjoy the experience and felt like I had no place in the company. it felt like I didn't really have a position but after I changed my line manager, I enjoyed it a lot more and I no longer felt like a student on placement, but an actual part of the team.
