Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Ensuring the site was legal, compliant and safe under the Site Engineering Functional Authority. Completed 3 month rotations in process improvement, asset management and governance & assurance.
Day to day involved DSUM meetings, stakeholder meetings, requirements capture, document analysis and fact finding interviews. Completed process writing, asset integration, audits, sharepoint design, etc

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I had a fair bit of responsibility most of the time but there were times when I was doing more shadowing than any independent work, probably due to the rotation being relatively short. I was given the opportunity to take ownership of tasks but the limited time meant I couldn't do anything major or long term.

Yes I was able to develop a lot of my existing skills (risk management, requirement capture, IT skills, etc) and learn new skills (process analysis, continuous improvement, stakeholder management, etc).

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Support and guidance was available whenever I asked. Unfortunately, due to constant manager changes it was difficult to keep track of my development throughout the year.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement whenever I had meaningful work to do. There was periods where due to the maturity of projects, I wasn't able to contribute meaningfully, which was not ideal. For the most part, I did enjoy it. I would have enjoyed it more if there was a more technical side to this role.

What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems
Do your research into what role you actually want to apply to and only apply to those. Ensure you have constant conversations with your Line Manager to support your development. Take proactive ownership of tasks and get involved in everything within and beyond the scope of your role.
