Undergraduate Software Engineer Review

During my 12 month placement as an undergraduate software engineer, I worked on both front-end and back-end development. My day-to-day tasks involved building and improving features, fixing issues, helping to keep applications running smoothly and having regular catch up meeting with seniors.

I was given a good level of responsibility during my placement. I was trusted to work on real tasks that had an impact on the applications, including making improvements to system functionality and fixing issues independently.
I had the opportunity to take ownership of certain tasks from start to finish, which helped me build confidence in my abilities. While I still received support and guidance from my team when needed, I was encouraged to work independently and contribute to the overall development process.

I learnt a lot of new skills and also developed my existing ones during my placement. I improved my programming skills by working on both front-end and back-end development in a real world environment. Improved my problem solving skills by debugging issues and finding effective solutions. In addition, I developed my teamwork and communication skills by working closely with others, taking part in discussions, and contributing to shared projects.

I received a good level of support and guidance throughout my placement. My team was always available to help when I had questions or got stuck, and they provided useful feedback on my work.
At the same time, I was also encouraged to work independently and try to solve problems on my own first, which helped me build confidence and improve my skills. The balance between support and independence made it a great learning experience.

The company culture and atmosphere was very supportive and welcoming, which made it a comfortable place to learn. The team was friendly and approachable, and people were always willing to help if I had questions or needed guidance.

I really enjoyed my placement overall. It was a valuable experience that allowed me to apply what I had learned at university in a real world environment and develop my technical skills further. I especially enjoyed working on real projects and seeing the impact of my work, as well as collaborating with my team and learning from their experience.
