Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?

I think there is a really welcoming and knowledgeable community at BAE Systems. I found it difficult coming in, as I had no control over the role/team I was put into. I think people are lovely and have time to teach you, as long as you show willing. I think the BAE grad scheme is really what you make it, depending on the level of work you are willing to put in.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

I came into an integration role, which was different to what I was expecting. It involves liaising with the engineering teams, senior management, international partners, project controllers and contract teams to ensure the project is running smoothy. I have also had the opportunity to get involved with some STEM ambassador work.

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

Its a really steep learning curve, with so much information to pick up. It was hard to feel valuable for at least the first six months.

Very little technical engineering involved, far more comparable to a project management role.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

3/5
Excellent line manager, no team dynamic, limited support for early careers team.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
The grad scheme has been a great opportunity to make new friends, find people to live with and share problems with.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
Its still pretty common to be the only girl in the room, but I generally feel welcome. There has been a push recently to get people working on-site more, I believe tis is a good thing to help new starters learn and get to know people.

How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
