Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at National Grid?

It was an incredible experience. I got a chance to move around the business, try out different roles and get a feel of what my career could look like in the long run.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

Contracts Analyst - Responsible for drafting single source contracts for low value contracts under £200k as well as some reporting. (Enjoyed actual drafting the most)
Project Controls Analyst - Responsible for risk reporting and delivering training resources in an innovative and creative manner. (Enjoyed designing and developing training videos most)
EU Policy and Regulations Analyst - Responsible for reviewing EU policy and legislation and advising on impact to our interconnector business. Also responsible for stakeholder engagement and management, attending industry events and networking with stakeholders. (Enjoyed every aspect of this role, especially as it involved occasional travel to Brussels.)

To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

5/5
Every work I did was tangible and I could clearly see how it fit into our BIG WORK mantra. Managers were always clear in demonstrating how the work I did was relevant in the grand scheme. It made showing up even more exciting.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

5/5
Compensation package felt fair for the level of work. There were lots of perks.

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

5/5
It was the perfect launching pad. There was a lot of support along the way, especially with the carefully curated trainings by the early careers team, in collaboration with external training experts such as cappfinity.

How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

5/5
The trainings were very helpful - both technical and non-technical. It helped me build useful skills for my roles but even more importantly, soft skills for my career in general.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?

4/5
I had the best line manager at the start. Very supportive, always available to help and even when she did not have an immediate solution, her famous line was "leave it with me." I felt very supported. I did have one placement manager that did not have capacity for a grad and that was a tad stressful to manage. But my line manager supported me the entire time and made it manageable.

How is your work-life balance?

5/5
There was never a problem with me needing to take time off for whatever reason. My hours were flexible and I never worried about not having sufficient time for my family or personal wellbeing.

What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

4/5
The culture was great. I synced easily across teams. The hybrid policy was flexible and convenient.

How would you rate National Grid initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

4/5
The Employee Resource Groups are an incredible initiative. Overall, National Grid is great with DEI, but more can always be done.

How would you rate National Grid CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

5/5
I volunteered a few times at the energy detective sessions delivered to primary schools, getting young children interested in energy from an early age.
