Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Developed Machine Learning systems for teams within BAE Systems. This was research and development work, including data analytics, data preprocessing, building ML pipelines and architecture, and iteration to meet cutomer demands.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I learnt completely new skills. I came into this role with little Python experience adn zero ML experience, and now feel increidbly competant at btoh and comfortable in completely ML tasks throughout the R&D pipeline.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support, due to a small team and limited bandwidth guidance was more limited. This meant I was doing a lot of work on my own, which subsequently progressed my skills.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
BAE Systems has a fantastic culture, including a detication and passion for the work and a passion for helping those around. Especially in the Early Careers roles, career development is a priority for everyone. However, this is site dependant and smaller sites with a lot of remote workers do not have the same excellent atmosphere.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I started off disliking my work, due to the limited training and guidance as well loneliness due to an office with many remote workers, especially in a new city. However, over time, as I got to know my job, and felt as though I was developing in my role and contributing to a larger initiative, I started to enjoy it.

What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems
It is a fantastic company to work for with great career prospects. It is great to be given responsibilities and the ability to contribute to meaningful projects. However, think carefullyabout what you want from the site and your team. Some sites have many remote workers whihc makes it harder to develop and enjoy the work.
