Graduate Systems Engineer Review

My experience at BAE Systems has been positive overall, although there have been a few challenges. Initially, there was minimal support when relocating to the island, a limited variety of social activities, and some lack of clarity around expectations when starting project work.
However, there are many positives. The team is diverse, and everyone is very supportive. The flexible timesheet system, including adjustable start and finish times, is a strong benefit. There is also a wide range of knowledge within the company and excellent opportunities for networking.

The role involves a wide range of responsibilities that can vary depending on the project. Typical tasks include developing fundamental engineering skills such as requirements management, gaining experience with software tools, and collaborating with different disciplines.
I particularly enjoy tasks that allow me to develop these core skills and learn from others. I also value the opportunity to take on responsibility and influence my own progression, such as managing aspects of systems and observing the full lifecycle of a system.
The role is not fixed and can involve a variety of activities, including documentation, data collection, translating complex information into a more understandable format, and supporting or overseeing system test procedures. This variety has helped me build a broad and transferable skill set.
