Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAE Systems?
Overall, I've enjoyed my experience at BAE.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I have completed one role, with a few extra curricular roles.
My day-job involves various tasks to do with governance, ownership and security within IT.
My extra curriculars include supporting and speaking with prospective and incoming graduates, organising the graduate-ran onboarding event, representing the company at STEM events and conducting site tours for education outreach.
I've most enjoyed my extra curricular work, especially organising the the onboarding events for new graduates as this has really expanded my knowledge of the business and allowed for good networking opportunities.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
My team gives me the chance to contribute meaningfully to the company, and I feel valued for some of the work I do. I've found that my specific role is more limited in opportunities to expand my skills outside of my area of the business.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I find my compensation package suitable.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Across my day job and extra curricular activities, I feel well prepared for my further career.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
My day role and extra curricular roles have given me opportunity to develop skills both that I wanted to, and ones I wasn't aware I wanted / needed to!

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
My line manager is very supportive. I have not had any issues contacting HR or graduate central support when needed. I did not get much contact from my buddy beyond the first few weeks, but equally I didn't need / chase for it. I would've liked to have more of a chance to connect with my team, but this couldn't be helped as many are fully remote.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
My work-life balance in the first year of my scheme was excellent. This has reduced as my scheme as gone on and I've gotten more responsibility, but all of this is from extra curricular work and not my day job.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly, supportive and genuinely considerate the entire company is, especially for it's size.
How would you rate BAE Systems initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Overall they have been good, especially regarding LGBTQIA concerns that arose mid-2025, fully supporting employees to make their own choices and be comfortable.
How would you rate BAE Systems CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
3/5
I can't say I'm aware of many.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall I've really enjoyed my experience. The company gives you as many opportunities to grow as you're willing to chase. They've been wholly supportive and if I went to my line manager and asked to get involved in something new, I have no doubt everyone would be willing to try and make that happen.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
I originally applied for a completely different roles - Project Management. This was a happy accident for me, as I didn't mind the role I was moved to, but this has absolutely limited my knowledge of the area I applied for.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be honest with what you know and don't know, giving a good go at breaking down your problem solving process when answering questions you don't know to come to a conclusion. BAE values the different perspectives that new applications bring - this is the best thing you can present. They also value people with high initiative and ambition - as much as you put in, you'll get out.
