Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at National Grid?

It was an amazing experience, a very smooth transition from an academic background to a corporate world. The training and support was not just to understand my role but the overall business put in a lot of perspective on the impact of work we do.

What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?

As a graduate on the National Grid Graduate Scheme, my main responsibilities include supporting project teams with technical analysis and design work, contributing to studies and reports, and assisting with the delivery of major infrastructure projects. The role involves working closely with experienced engineers and stakeholders, gaining exposure to industry standards, safety requirements, and regulatory frameworks. Rotations across different teams provide a broad understanding of the business, while a had the opportunity to manage the portfolio being a part of PMO teams. Such a chance to diversify and understand the management aspect did gave an exposure that i did not expect.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend National Grid to a friend, particularly to someone at an early stage in their career. The graduate scheme offers strong structured development, meaningful project exposure, and the opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure. The support from managers, mentors, and colleagues creates a positive learning environment, and the emphasis on safety, collaboration, and professional growth helps build confidence and competence. The breadth of experience gained through rotations and the long-term career opportunities within the organisation make National Grid a rewarding place to start and develop a career.

How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?

This assessment is intended to provide an overall understanding of you as an individual, focusing on your motivations, approach to work, and professional values, rather than solely on technical knowledge.
