Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My day-to-day role as a Deputy manager includes supporting the Nursery Manager with the running of the nursery, ensuring safeguarding is implemented at all times. Ensuring staff are supported throughout the day and they have everything they need to plan accordingly for the day.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoyed completing my Level 5 Apprenticeship. I learnt a lot about myself and how I lead a staff team and also about different theorists and the impact these have on practitioners ways of teaching today.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of new skills, including how to be more empathic towards staff members and more understanding into how everything thinks and teaches differently.
I've also learnt more regarding curriculum and how to make this more inclusive to the children that are in our care to ensure all children are offered a curriculum they could learn and thrive from.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship was very organised, my assessor was incredible and understood the way i learnt and adapted her teaching to support that. I didn't feel there was a heavy work load and felt supported by my assessor the whole way through.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer supported me well during my apprenticeship. I was allocated time to complete online sessions and time to complete outstanding work and required off the job hours. If I needed support, i knew i could approach my employer to support with this.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My assessor throughout my apprenticeship was good, she was very prompt at replying and supporting me and understand the way i learnt and adapted teaching to suit both me and others on the course. She gave good feedback which would then help me effectively in the next part of the course.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I know have a better understanding of how people work, and can adapt my teaching style to help support those.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are team building events within the nursery teams and a Christmas party each year.
There was also an event last year in the Summer in which all the nurseries came to celebebrate together.
