Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The scheme offers a valuable insight into life as a trainee at Cooley, with opportunities to get involved in real client work. I undertook a range of tasks, including legal research and drafting attendance notes following client calls. I also gained exposure to a wide variety of practice areas and developed key skills through centrally organised sessions and activities such as a practice area roadshow, a pitch exercise and a business writing task.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
We participated in sessions hosted by current trainees, as well as members involved in pro bono work and diversity and inclusion initiatives. This gave me a comprehensive understanding of the trainee role at the firm, as well as insight into the breadth of its pro bono work and the variety of practice areas.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I was able to develop a wide range of skills, including written and verbal communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. This was facilitated through completing various tasks for my supervisor and participating in further exercises such as a pitch exercise.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone at the firm was extremely welcoming, across all levels of seniority, from trainees through to partners. People were consistently willing to take the time to share insights into their work, which made the experience particularly engaging and informative.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I would I would strongly encourage anyone considering a career in commercial law to apply for the Spring or Summer Programme at Cooley.
