Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Setting and running both 3 and 5 axix CNC milling machine. Throughout the apprenticeship, rotations in other areas of the manufacturing buisness are being taught to me. Including 6 month rotations in, quality, CNC machine programming, laser engraving, buisness management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

There is a wide range of areas to learn and gain exposure to throughout the apprenticeship. The exposure to other areas within a buisness, is very engaging. Many of these skills are not taught directly in collage or university, giving me real life hands on experience. Giving me exposure to all areas within a buisness not just direct engineering applications.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, as we have multiple rotations during the 4 years on my course. During the rotations, I work with many different experts giving me lots of exposure to a manufacturing environment. The support given in this time, to ensure you are the most rounded engineer possible is next to none.

The organisation through university varies but all in all is a good experience.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support is always available. Support from a large group of apprentices is extremely useful. With support not just from the apprentice manager, but with direct support from co-workers and managers.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A good amount of support is provided from the university, with tripartite meetings from university themselves. During your 3rd and 4th year, an academic supervisor is supplied, resulting in more concises and higher levels of report writing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Some modules taught at university are directly applicable at work others not. However the not so applicable areas taught only strengthen your knowledge as an engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Work organise events for everyone to attend 2 or 3 times a year. Due to the high intake off apprentices, we regularly organise events to go to outside of work.

As you get a large amount of exposure to all areas within an engineering buisness, the knowlege learnt about how a buisness runs, strongly strengthens your opertunites after the appreticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Geometric Manufacturing LTD?
No prior knowelge of an engineering setting is needed, meaning it is easy to learn within the buisness.
