Every day in my job as a Senior Geomatic Surveyor for BYUK involves handling different types of data. This work often involves gathering, managing, organizing, processing, validating, producing outputs in various form, storing and passing along information using various methods to support decision-making on construction projects.
In my role, I regularly collect accurate data using surveying equipment such as total stations, digital levels, GPS and laser scanners. This raw data is then transferred into digital systems where it is cleaned, validated and structured before being analysed.
I also use specialist software to process, interpret and visualise data, including producing digital drawings, models and reports that communicate findings clearly to engineers, project managers and other stakeholders that supports operational and strategic decisions.

By learning more about data management, automation and analytical tools, I will be able to support improvements in how data is processed and reported within the organisation. My background in land surveying also allows me to bring a practical perspective to data analysis, supporting digital development and better decision-making across projects. Keeping up to date with new tools and industry trends will help me contribute more effectively in the long term
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My workplace does offer extra-curricular activities, including social events and networking opportunities. These have been a great way to connect with colleagues and feel part of the wider organisation beyond my day-to-day role. This year, I was also invited to an Apprentice Day held at the main office, which included a networking breakfast, a mental wellbeing awareness session, and a LinkedIn writing workshop. It was a brilliant experience that allowed me to connect with other apprentices, hear success stories from former apprentices, and develop skills beyond my technical training
