Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

So far I have gained practical experience on a major construction project, taking on responsibilities to ensure quality and safety on site, use of drawings and 3d models to check the works and coordinating between different teams. The work can be challenging but is very rewarding, helps to develop excellent communication, professional growth and technical skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have found my apprenticeship programme to be very valuable so far combining academic learning with hands-on experience on site. There is also good support from colleagues and managers while completing the academic side of the programme.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed a range of new and existing skills. Including strengthening my understanding of engineering drawings, quality assurance processes and 3d models. New skills developed include temporary works and management of steel reinforcement ordering to site. Soft skills have also been developed throughout the programme including communication, teamwork and problem solving. This programme supports continuous development through reviews and CPD logs.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised and structured. Two week blocks of time are separated for university attendance which gives a break from work to allow concentration on studies.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a high level of support from my employer, allowing me to take blocks of time off from work to attend university for studying as well as for exams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Training provider support is also very high. Sufficient materials are provided to allow for us to revise for exams and complete studies to a high level. Staff are easy to contact and enough resources are available on the university website and library.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The knowledge of engineering principles gained on from university help to support better decision making on site and helps apply information learned to real world applications.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are plenty of extra activities to be involved in after work including team social activities, restaurant visits, walks, and other networking events after work.

Bouygues offers strong opportunities for development, especially through apprenticeship programmes which supports skill building for young people allowing them to take responsibility and contribute in a meaningful way to large construction projects.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bouygues UK?
It is important to have an interest in engineering, be proactive, have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Being able to get along and communicate well with all different people is also important.
