My role is of a programmer. I use mt training and experience using CNC machines to program and run work for the company. My day-to-day activities involve either programming new or practice work to improve my skills or using the programs i make on a CNC machine.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The program has helped improve my knowledge skills and behavior. i feel like i am slowly becoming more and more competent at my role and i am often pushed. However the lack of structure that is dotted through slow this progress down.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Most of my manual and off of my other machining knowledge was given to me during the course. I went from never seeing a CNC machine to being competent enough to Program, Set, and Operate work for the company. i am treated as a project manager seeing the work go through its entire life cycle. There is plenty of opportunity to learn, you just need to take them. When developing skills here, You are often left to learn from your own mistakes due to several pressures. The work environment is very forgiving about mistakes and encourages questioning for this reason.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Both at work and at university, i have experienced oversights in organization that have lead to unnecessary issues. Additionally, the majority of the role was taught through trial and error with little to no standardization of knowledge and no standard operating procedure. You can leave certain sections of training without learning crucial information simply because its a problem you've never encountered it. The structure and planning is a weakness of the programme
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Despite the lack of structure, the support i get from the employer is adequate because they rely on the other experienced people who work close to you to do the teaching and supporting. the culture of the workplace encourages questions and doesn't punish mistakes which makes the support adequate
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Most of the training towards qualification is planned by the apprentice. There are a series of criteria to complete the end point assessment that you have to work towards yourself. There is also a logged training hour system that tracks employer training that we often fill with our own learning thanks to the style of support structure making it challenging to complete.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The training is good at developing a good level of understanding of a topic or role. you preform your role, make mistakes, learn from them and repeat until you are competent enough to handle the work. However, if you don't experience something, you wont learn it leading to gaps in knowledge later on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No
Why?
Its not for everybody. Its a place that is perfect for people who harden instead of crumble under pressure.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Geometric Manufacturing LTD?
spend the first years learning and perfecting HOW to complete assignments at a degree level so you can focus on the content when you need to. If you make the most of lulls in work you'll have a smooth time university wise
