Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My apprenticeship at DXC has been brilliant so far, not just on the side that is provided by my university but also within how my workplace supports it. My assignment manager could not be doing more to make sure I get the hands on exposure to help me understand and flourish within my apprenticeship, taking the list of KSBs (goals) provided by my apprenticeship providers and constantly looking for different ways within my account (even if it's outside of my job role) that he can gain me exposure on these. The apprenticeship team themselves at DXC have also been brilliant, attending all my meetings with my uni to support me and having regular catch ups. They are all so friendly and approachable that I know if anything was to go wrong - they would help me get it sorted as soon as I flagged it. Even the office culture at DXC is brilliant and you can almost feel as though you're still getting the full 'uni' experience through an apprenticeship. We have a variety of engagement events at work such as book club, film club, nerds club - and of course you can still join the societies within uni as part of your apprenticeship. It's rare to find a workplace that not only supports you in doing your degree but encourages you to get the most out of your experience in terms of enjoyment as well.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I have really enjoyed my time so far, the academics side has been incredible and I feel I have already got so much out of it, having the hands on experience to compliment it really enriches your understanding of the topics being taught in class.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I came into this role from a completely different background, and I truly feel that to be one of the best parts of DXC. You don't have to come into a degree apprenticeship here with a full understanding or prior knowledge of tech, project management etc. They look for potential not experience. I had never touched excel or really anything to do with computers before I started here and in just 7 months I am so confident within excel and what I do that I can teach and explain it to other people. The teams are so helpful and understand that you are here to learn and really want to help you do that.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
My programme is really well structured, inclusive of quarterly group academic catch ups, weekly 1-1s with assignment managers to assist with skill development and monthly 1-1s with people managers to track and assist with academic and personal development.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
My employers have been so supportive of my degree, my assignment manager is constantly looking for ways to help get me more exposure to the topics I cover in uni, and even a few times he has helped me understand how theories and topics we cover in class apply in a practical real-life sense. I am allowed to block off time within my work week for off the job hours for my apprenticeship and if I ever feel like I am struggling managing workload with uni my employers would do anything to help.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
My training provider has been brilliant to, providing me detailed feedback when I'm logging my off the job hours and advising me on what can and can't go in. We have regular catch ups and not only does she check in on how my degree side is going but she's always asking me how I'm getting on with work too and how I'm progressing.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
I don't think I would have came on within my role as well as I have if it hadn't of been for my learning within my qualification, I am always learning new things in class and looking for ways I can apply it to my work place role. My manager is always interesting in hearing about what I've learnt and how I think it could help within my role and helping me apply it.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
There is so many activities, there's a weekly 5aside football, book club, film club, nerds club. We have a ton of engagement and networking events too, so for me personally this year I am going to volunteer at the cat and dog shelter, completing the Walking With The Wounded Cumbrian challenge, participating in a networking event at ManU stadium and more, there really is something for everyone here and it's a great way to get out of your shell and meet people in a new job that you may not otherwise speak to.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DXC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would recommend DXC to anyone, they're such an amazing supportive company to work for and I could not be more glad I chose to do my apprenticeship through them.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DXC?

If you're thinking of applying to DXC I would advise everyone to just apply, go to one of our assessment centre days and see for yourself. My top tip I would give would be to not be nervous for these assessment centres, they're extremely laid back and relaxed and if you let yourself - you'll actually enjoy it. They don't want you to feel anxious or nervous on the day because they want to see your real personality and the best of you. They're looking for potential not complete experience and fully fleshed out skills, just go and be yourself.
