Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
I am in a security role and greatly enjoy the opportunities given to me by my team. They offer me lots of support and learning opportunities, and my skillset is rapidly strengthening. I got put in a role that I really wanted to work in and have had a great time working within it. My only negative is that my messages such as holiday requests often get ignored until chased several times.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I really enjoy engaging with other people on our Early Careers programme, there are a lot of events and activities on where everybody can get together and it makes a big difference. Working in a group of young people who are all quite entry-level creates a nice working environment where you feel supported because everyone is new together. We have to be in-office 4/5 days, which feels like too much when most of us can do all of our jobs from home.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I've had a lot of learning opportunities here. We have Udemy Business subscriptions with a massive array of courses available and often have free time in our roles to do some extra learning. There are also opportunities to sit certifications funded by the company.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
Our internal Early Careers Team put a lot of effort into the scheme and there are a lot of opportunities available within it. Personally I have a good balance of everything and I am happy, but there are also a lot of people who do not have very much to do in their job roles even when we are half a year in.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
I feel confident that there are people who I can go to when I need them, I am supported both in the academic program and by the team I work within. It can be difficult to get things that we need from the higher up managers, especially when we need them quickly.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

1/5
Our cohort is collectively very nervous for our degree pathway. Our lecturers are often replaced or leave themselves, and every time an assignment is due we have not covered anywhere near enough materials in lectures to be prepared for them. In fairness, our providers have tried to take actions to help but they often come too late to make a difference.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

1/5
The massive amounts of self-study needed to be able to complete our assignments for university takes away from the time we could be doing more job-role related work/study.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Lots of engagement and charity opportunities available, couldn't fault it.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend DXC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Excellent opportunity to work and learn at the same time, lovely supportive early careers team around you, great to work alongside other young people in the early careers programme.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DXC?

Be prepared that if you're doing a qualification alongside your role, it is not going to be easy and will likely take a lot of your own time.
If you join the early careers programme here, say yes to all of the events etc you get invited to if possible. They are really fun and a great networking opportunity.
