Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
During the 3 year apprenticeship you rotate around 3 different teams at Arm. We get a lot of autonomy in how we work, so I prefer to get my focus-work done early in the day while meetings and admin related tasks in the afternoon. One day a week is dedicated to online lectures and we are given extra time for assignments when/if necessary.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Arm is an amazing place to work, there's so much freedom to find interesting projects and take them on, while also having no delivery pressure as an apprentice. The University side of things is well run and often quite relevant to the role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my programming skills, learned how to use AI agents to perform complex tasks, various EDA tools used in my team as well as the general principles behind chip design and manufacture.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Some teams seem to be better prepapred for apprentices than others, but this hasn't been much of an issue as long as you use your initiative, ask questions and don't be afraid to get stuck in when you come across something interesting
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have weekly one-to-ones with my line manager as well as a special "apprentice quest" set up to help apprentices in my team get up to speed with general chip design concepts.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have meetings every 6 weeks to review our progress
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The course is a generic software course, so it has some overlap. The work done at Arm is quite niche, we're using specific tools sometimes internally built so there's no other way to learn this stuff other than on the job. The courses provide some useful background for example the IT course gave me a better understanding of virtual machines and database storage which I have to use regularly in my daily job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Early careers put events on regularly for apprentices, interns and graduates, plus we have the apprentice conference every year. In general, the Sheffield office has a monthly social which includes everyone from the Sheffield office. There are lots of social and formal networking events throughout the year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Arm is a flexible place to work making it ideal for anyone that needs that flexibility, you get to work with great people who are kind and incredibly knowledgeable, and you get the freedom to take on projects that you find interesting and work in a way that suits you the best.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arm?
I think Arm are much more interested in your unique perspective, problem solving skills and team skills than how much technical knowledge you have, when it comes to the apprenticeship.
