Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have been working on internal tooling in Python used by my team, the wider company and external partners, but am about to move on to Android app development in Kotlin to be used in performance analysis of Android devices in real-life use cases. My work is partly remote, but you can come into the office as much as you like. Work timing is very flexible, and there are lots of exciting things going on at the Cambridge campus.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The level 6 apprenticeship is a mix of study and on-the-job work, with 4/5ths of the time doing real Arm work. There is so much to learn at Arm and fantastic people to learn from.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
It is hard to know where to start with new skills and development! It has been a steep learning curve, and still is. Depending on your role and team, there is much to learn, and as tech is always changing, the learning never stops. That is the nature of the joba, and I would not have it any other way. Academic studies add an extra dimension to the level of learning in this apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is generally a clear structure to the programme, but life at Arm always leaves you with options to pursue what matters most to you
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Arm is a genuinely supportive place. It is extremely open and non-judgmental in a way that I have never come across before.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
My coach is great and really supportive. Perhaps because of the remote nature of the studies, some systems seem less open. I know there is a lot more to the training provider that I have not explored so I can't comment on this part too much.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The studies add a different dimension to training and make you look at the wider picture and skills that you might otherwise miss. If I am honest, I am mostly here for the work at Arm, and anything I gain from the training provider is a bonus, plus, of course, I get a degree at the end of it!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is so much going on at Cambridge Arm, for apprentices, for early years and for everyone! Some are organised, some are small and casual, and there is plenty of room for spontaneous events. Arm clearly cares deeply about welfare and culture, and it pays dividends. I feel so lucky to work in such a genuinely inclusive place.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work is great, I am learning so much, and I really like my team. I get the impression that this would be the case wherever I worked at Arm. Having worked in various settings, I really value Arm's openness and inclusivity.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arm?
Go for it! Show that you are open to learning and challenges. Be yourself, and if you don't get in the first time, try again. Arm is a great place to work and learn.
