Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
At the moment on average I work on my improving my teams tools and infrastructure with a focus also being put on the development of low level engineering skills with Languages such as C.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The programme that Arm provides is extremely good with us being given to rotate into new teams once a year in September allowing for experience new things, improve our skills and meet new people in the company while helping to push us out of our comfort zones.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Durring my time at Arm as an apprentice I have been given the opportunity to develop my skills as a Software Engineer and work on problems that I likely wouldn't face in other places with me having to solve problems related to low level firmware.
This has all allowed me to improve and develop my skills with:
Python
C
Arm Assembly
Git
Linux
Java (uni assignment)
HTML, CSS and JavaScript (uni assignment)
Planning event (Apprentice Social Comittee)

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme that Arm offers is well structured with Degree apprentices rotating into new teams once a year and most managers being rather relaxed with deadlines allowing for apprentices to focus on bits for University.
Degree apprentices are also assigned a industrial tutor that is an experienced Senior or high level engineer at Arm that assists them with getting used to being at Arm and helping them fill in gaps and act as Pastoral support.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Arm is incredibly supportive of those who are Neurodivese and LGBTQ+ with Neurodiverse individuals being able to get accomadations for any issues they might face and those who are Transgender being able to recieve alot support to help make a already scary and anxious time a bit less scary and easier to get through.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The learning and degree are far too generic with us covering stuff that doesn't feel relivant to Software Engineering with us covering nothing related to how Computers work such as CPU registers or Binary from the Uni while some of the programming modules that the degree has us do (Advanced Programming as an example) feeling like something we should've done in our first or second year instead of our last year.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Arm it is incredibly easy to find groups to spend time with, with there being board game groups that meet at Lunchs to play together and after work to play social deduction games, with there also being groups that meet to play Warhammer and there frequrently being either new or continuted Table Top RPG groups playing DnD or Pathfinder.
There are also frequrent events being planned and ran by the Social committees for apprentices to attend.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arm to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Arm is incredibly welcoming and has greatly helped me in being more myself and improving my skills and abilities as an engineer
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arm?
Be yourself and answer honestly, the interviewers are not trying to catch you out and if you need help ask for it.
