4.2/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a scheduler within a larger program. I produce presentation slide packs, gantt charts through OnePager and program in Visual Basic Application to aid in automating my work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme and would recommend to other apprentices.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt how to program in VBA, how to use Microsoft projects, excel, outlook and OnePager. I have also learnt much about scheduling, including schedule health metrics, logic links, constraints and critical path analysis. I have developed the skill of problem solving.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It took over half a year for many people in our team, myself included, to understand mostly what our team does. Various other aspects such as EdgeWing I do not fully understood. I would say it is roughly structured. But this is programme specific.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive full support from my employer in all aspects of the job.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The support can be ambiguous and patchy. Eventually, the assignments are completed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think the qualification is clearly relevant to the role and the theory we have learnt is discussed in placement. Without the knowledge from university about various theory/models, I would be unsure about some items hence the qualification is very useful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are but I do not attend them. Unless by "extra-curricular" you are referring to stretch projects or STEM trailer events in which case I do attend those. But overall there are many options in this regard.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Reasons including an exciting product to provide motivation to work, the large size of the company in terms of employees and job sectors/roles within the company, the work ethic, culture, integration of apprentices in both placement work and for sponsoring qualifications in addition to industry leading wages/pay and the vast amount of opportunities, whether it be job roles, travelling abroad or events to name a few.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Ensure you are suitable for the role. As long as you have the required transferable skills and passion, there is no reason to worry.
