Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Completing practical tasks, sometimes learning and a day a week at college.
A LOT OF WAITING. SO MUCH WAITING.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Practical tasks are enjoyable for the most part...

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
The first year/two years are aimed at teaching you general workplace skills which I already had after 12 years working another job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The structure is solid and promotes progression, however organisation can be lacklustre.
This has gotten significantly better with intake years after mine.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
AWE have been the most accommodating workplace I have ever worked at in my 12+ years in various companies. Neurodiversity is taken seriously and support is offered on an individual basis, and direct management are generally kind, understanding and invested in their apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Difficult to tell from my perspective as the first portion is very much focused on the internal training and college.
Other people have been given conversations about progressing to higher qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
This would be much easier to answer in the later stages of apprenticeship...
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are all sorts of clubs, events and activities that are advertised on the internal portal all the time.
And the business very heavily push professional networking events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good place to work, generally relaxed work loads, pushing a developing culture of safety being key.
For the most part the people are kind, caring and approachable.
A lot of support for Neurodiversity, Mental health and general life turbulence.
Very good pension scheme, allegedly relatively easy to progress or change roles.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
Ask for the information you need to progress, and if you don't get a satisfactory answer... ask somebody different. Don't be scared to approach high ranking members of staff, most people are willing to entertain conversations and the business really do want to see their apprentices succeed.
