Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Currently, I am in a Cyber security Engagement role for the scope of Europe. In my day to day, aid communications regarding cyber security events, campaigns and posture of regions in order to remediate gaps and improve the cyber hygiene across this region. As Unilever is such a large company, I am able to learn from many different aspects such as the supply chain, cloud, or Research & Development and give a great understanding of the wider picture.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

There are so many points of development and everyone is there to drive that with you. The people here are really welcoming and build a strong community which encourages learning. It is a lovely environment to work in. Regarding the programme more specifically, Digital Technology Solutions is a very well established department within Unilever. As of Cyber itself, cyber is continually growing and Unilever continues to drive that development securely and safely.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

In my experience there is a lot of hands on development and encouragement to take time and understand deeper, put calls in with the appropriate people to dig into their knowledge on particular topics to drive those skills, behaviours or simple to increase knowledge and understanding because you find the subject interesting.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Digital Technology Solutions is a very well established part of the company. There is still a lot of room for development in many areas which I think Unilever is good at discovering, understanding, strategizing and developing to mitigate.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is a lot of support from both my Career Sponsor (someone who will mentor me through the full 4 year Apprenticeship) and from my line manager.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider is great when it comes to putting in time to talk and help where there is confusion however there is a lot of confusion in understanding what is going on and how it all coincides with one another.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

With the work I do for University, I don't feel it helps me greatly. However, this my be due to my course not specialising into cybersecurity just yet.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

there are a lot of events / extra-curriculum events to get involved in which are continuously getting driven.

Yes
Why?
Mainly, the community and the dedication to continuously learn. I think these are two very important points to drive, allowing for great development all round.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
Learn he big picture and then use that to dive into what you really enjoy.
