4.6/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Role consists of creating and updating designs for engineering equipment. Day to day activities differ but consist of creating the 3D models on new parts, creating or altering drawings for components or compartments and ensuring documentation is stored in accordance with company policy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do find this role enjoyable and rewarding but as with any job role there are aspects that are less enjoyable

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I would definitely say I've been able to develop a lot of new skills around CAD design and have learnt a lot about what is a relatively niche working area.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The whole program is very structured and we are constantly informed of when key milestones are coming up such as change in placement or one of the yearly gateways.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I've never needed much support but we are made aware that if anything is needed then there are people in place that can assist with whatever we need, there are also semi regular check ins with skills coaches where we can raise any concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
There was always help made available when completing my HNC qualification usually organised by manager with older apprentices or ex-apprentices that had already completed the HNC qualification. There is also regular sessions in place with help and guidance around our end of apprenticeship qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualifications supplied are more broad when covering engineering as whole where as our work is split into more specific disciplines so some of the information within the qualifications isn't the most useful but I do feel like its useful for more background knowledge and understanding.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a large number of activities and events for any apprentice to take part in if they wish.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think they do provide a good amount of training and support for their apprentices, the staff are friendly and supportive, and the job role itself is interesting and fulfilling.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure you understand what the role your applying to consists of and don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something as the majority of employees are always happy to lend a helping hand with explaining aspects of the job.
