Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have undertaken 2 placements so far, each being in a different role. The first placement was data reporting which consisted of me creating and updating reports on a daily basis, these reports were then distributed to stakeholders and other members of the business. The second placement is in a manufacturing engineering team where I help with the reporting, however this involves longer, less frequent tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have really enjoyed my programme so far, I have enjoyed learning about the business and seeing how it works, fitting myself into the system the best I can. I feel I have learned a lot about professional interactions and practice, overall much increasing my confidence and ability to communicate. I feel I am picking up useful behaviours that will allow me to further progress my skills and improve in my roles.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I think I have improved many existing skills of mine whilst also learning some new ones alongside. One skill I definitely feel I have improved is my written communication skills. Before I started my role, I felt m skills were lacking as I often overthought emails and messages before I sent them, however now I feel my skills have progressed and I believe it helps me come across better while communicating. A new skill I have learnt is power query in excel. Before my role, I had minimal experience on excel and only knew the most basic functions. However, I am now confident in my skills and abilities to carry out any tasks that I am given, especially around power query.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think the programme is well organised and structured, which massively helps me as an apprentice as I find information is clearly presented and communicated.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There are many points of contact when it comes to support within the organisation, making support extremely easy to find.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We receive support from the training provider, however I feel support can be difficult to find at times. I think the use of student reps is good, however it can sometimes make it feel like the university is difficult to contact as you have to go through middle men.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think the qualification will help in my role in the future. As of right now, none of the modules we have covered related to my placements, however I'm sure this will change as we cover more modules and i go into new placements. I feel the qualification is allowing me to prepare for the end of my apprenticeship and get me ready for my exit role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there always groups for various different activities and occasions. These groups often appear in apprentice forums and workshops, so they're really easy to find.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a company with great people and a great support group, everyone wants to help the best they can and give you the best experience. There's so many experts in so many fields for you to learn from and pick up skills and knowledge.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be honest and be yourself. I think just being genuine with your answers gives a much better impression than sounding like you're reading a script. Another piece of advice would be to research about the company, having knowledge about the company and showing interest will make you a much more appealing candidate and interviewers will see your effort.
