Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My apprenticeship focuses on maintenance of machines on composting facilities in the midlands.
We should be able to diagnose problems and retrieve the parts and fix the problem. We will also ensure that site operations run as they should and help out in other roles on the site as and when required.
Every breakdown is different and each one tests you in a different way.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Some days are slower than others but if people are looking for a variety of tasks and something that is constantly changing then I can recommend this programme. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at my training provider ( IN-comm training services ).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt the purpose of different tooling and also the ways we can manufacture and fix parts ourselves. At college I have learnt how to weld and use power tools, welding is a very useful skill in this role as this allows us to rectify parts on site quickly. I also understand how hydraulic and pneumatic systems work and how to diagnose problems on them.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The training provider operates at the same times every week and this allows me to balance the workload and plan my week according to this. They have courses planned for when I leave my training provider to carry on my development.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Any questions I have are always answered and there are always people beyond your line manager that are willing to help. Everyone at the company are welcoming and friendly.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

Everything is explained in depth and every assignment and exam we take is prepared for weeks in advance and this gives us time to understand the task and do it to the best of our ability.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I spend three days a week with my training provider so this makes it hard to carry lots of this experience over to my workplace. When I am no longer at my training provider Im sure I will start carrying out more on site jobs and really applying my learning everyday.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am invited to networking events to represent the company. Recently I attended AAN ( Apprenticeship Ambassador Network ) at the KIA Oval in London.

Would you recommend Veolia Environmental Services to a friend?

Yes

Why?

They are a huge corporation and I feel as if the opportunity within is very brightly and you have the right people there to push you further.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Veolia Environmental Services?

Be yourself in the interview as this gives the employer the opportunity to see what personalities they want in their workplace. Attend your first day with an open mind and make it known that you are willing to do the job and move forwards
