Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a mechanical designer, I currently am working on changes to design for pipe routing. I use 2D and 3D CAD software.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have both learned and developed quite a lot since starting the apprenticeship. I have learned so much about the job, health and safety in the work place and so much more. I have developed my work ethic, my communication, leadership and working in a team as well as many more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
a lot of it is at our own pace which is good but sometimes i don't know where I am meant to be at with my knowledge skills and behaviours because everyone is on different placements and levels. But it is very organised and done in a way i think eases everyone into the job and business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
we have 12 week reviews which we can ask for support and talk with early careers one to one. All the early careers team are available to help, listen and support with anything we need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
when working towards getting my HNC i am able to call or message them for help as it is all remote. But i think it would be so much more useful if it was local and we can do it in person. there is tutors that we can ask for which ive heard are helpful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
i think some aspects allow me to understand the things behind it, like the science of materials and the way systems work etc. But a lot of the content isn't very relevant to the job directly, just mainly the working behind it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
yes there are many and i get involved in a lot. I am actually running an event currently which is a really good opportunity,

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
yes, it is a very good company to work for as there is so much support in place for almost any problem you may have. they invest time and money into progressing your learning and career. there is also so many opportunities to help with core skills like being involved in extra curricular activities, this could be participating or helping out.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
do your research on the company, get involved in as many events as possible as they like to know you understand what you are working for and its importance, this can be; open days, women in engineering (this is definitely something i would recommend), and go to any stalls at career events. understand the basics of the job role you apply for (explains on the website where you apply for the role). Look into the 8 behaviours and put them into your answers when being interviewed.
