Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Enablement team within boat delivery. I interact with planning teams, networking and other project functions as well as the trade level who build and carry out the work planned. We enable the trades to accomplish their tasks, through fire fighting, normal day to day tasks etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I believe it is very dependent on the placements you do that can influence your enjoyment on the programme. So far I have enjoyed aspects of both placements and disliked factors.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Becoming much more proficient in using new business focussed software as well as software such as Excel. Developing core skills associated with my job role mainly communication, leadership and networking.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I believe some aspects are more structured than others, university can often be unstructured and disorganised at times. Due to the nature of the business with hundreds of different placements, skills coaches and information there is further disorganisation throughout as there can be more nuance to the programme than expected.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
I think that this also depends on the placements you get. As you spend 1 year within each placement rotation your team will be the main focal point for support during this year, often overriding skills coaches and early careers based on how much you interact with your placement team. This means support is less standardised throughout, speaking from personal experience both my placements have been poor with support in terms of the apprenticeship and often workload as well compared to others I have heard about.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
For the PMQ we had been sessions staggered throughout this year (currently second year) with a provider who could give us individual feedback and attentive help. As for university we receive levels of support when asked for.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I do not recognise the qualification as a great help within my role. Trying to take information learned from the PMQ and translate it into my current role is applicable however due to the nature of my role is not used, needed or necessarily relevant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There are some social events that get organised throughout the year for apprentices while there are a couple of groups you can join to get involved in more activities and events, however these are still a very minuscule occurrence.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The benefits, pay and rewards are extremely good. Pair this with the ability to always gain further training and development if you are in the right environment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Assess the job role and ensure you align with the competencies, behaviours and some skills depending on what you are applying for. If it's an apprenticeship having the drive to learn, be organised and enthusiastic is more important than knowing the skills set and competencies already.
