Communications Industrial Placement Student Review

I am the Communications Industrial Placement Student for Global Supply Chain. In this role, I facilitate the delivery of clear and consistent messages to manufacturing sites, engaging internal audiences with the wider GSK business initiatives. Within this role, I build engagement in the company's purpose, strategy and culture, both internally and externally. We are responsible for protecting and enhancing the reputation of GSK.

During the placement, I was provided with key responsibilities and felt like a valued member of the Communications and Government Affairs department throughout my time working there. I was invited to attend numerous charity award events, lead on a number of projects, involving employees from across the numerous manufacturing events across the globe, and collected data regarding our communication platforms.

This placement has introduced me to the corporate world, allowing me to develop key communication skills with a variety of stakeholders and engaging with employees across the world. I have been able to establish a network of contacts, by working and learning from experts across the business. I have developed my professional image and expanded my knowledge of the healthcare industry, involving myself in numerous current affair projects.

Throughout the placement I was supported with a vast range of learning, coaching and mentoring sessions, focusing on a variety of skills deemed important for developing my career in communications and global healthcare work. The Communications department hosted many learning opportunities for placement students, focusing on Tone of Voice, data analytical skills and career development opportunities.

GSK is a fantastic company, allowing for flexible working and involvement across different functions in the company. Everyone in the company is willing to help you and offer numerous opportunities and events for you to get involved in. The atmosphere in the office is constantly vibrant, with all employees providing a friendly face and teach you about their role in the company.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at GSK. The company is inclusive, supporting all employees and encouraging everyone to share their ideas and collaborate. IP Unite provides a fantastic platform for connecting with other Placement Students across the company, allowing you to ask each other questions and provide support. All employees are encouraging and friendly, introducing you to many opportunities and willing to teach you about their roles.
