Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I loved having multiple talks throughout the day by different people who provided an insight about their jobs. Not just the normal this is my job talk but they talked about their pathway on getting to that job and told us that there is no 1 route to get there. I loved how they put our minds at ease and told us to explore our options and that they at our age didn’t know what job they wanted to do, it’s all ‘trial and error’.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
With it being an online placement I couldn’t get a proper insight of how it would be to work at this company. This is due to covid 19. So I couldn’t go around and physically do the work but they did explain roles within the company which we could apply for/do in other companies. They did however do a live video tour which showed us the site they worked on-I loved this since it was different to seeing them in a classroom setting.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
The information I have taken from each persons talk has been very helpful. It has given me the point of view from someone in the conservation field and from their experience I can alter my own pathway to suit my career. They have provided very useful books and links that I will look at which I can reference in my final year exams as extra reading! I also liked how each person had a PowerPoint with their talk which they emailed round to us.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Due to not being there in person (this was an online placement) it was hard to understand the company culture. Most companies have posters around when you go visit them so I couldn’t see the work setting. I also couldn’t interact with people working there so that makes it harder to see the company culture and how it would actually be working for them. They did talk about their company ethics eg Brian said he didn’t like that base jobs needed a load of experience.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BCP Council
Yes I would recommend this placement to a friend. Obviously without covid 19 they would be able to travel to the placement location and would be able to get a lot more out of the placement than I did online. Due to mainly just being there in person and being able to physically do activities with animals. However this put aside I loved the talks from everyone and it was very helpful to listen to other people’s opinions.
