Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Attend trainings, team meetings, work on individual and group projects, collaborate with team members and other internal teams both within the office and overseas.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. Each intern was given an individual project to work on. Having received some training, they really trust you with the work, whilst still providing plenty of support and guidance.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes. Aside from specific technical skills developed, I have really gotten to seen how the company functions, as well as key soft skills in play by the people around me, which are crucial for future career development. I also developed my interests and gained a better understanding of how to reach my mid-term goals.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
A lot of support and guidance. Every intern was assigned a mentor, buddy and connector. My mentor and I spoke multiple times every day to see how my work was and if I needed any help. The environment is incredibly friendly, so not only can you talk to your assigned mentor/buddy/connector, it is perfectly normal and accepted to reach out to anyone in the business!

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Amazing culture. In the course of the 10 week internship, I shadowed 17 different people in various teams across both my department and other departments. There was not a single instance where I reached out to ask for a shadowing session or help and advice and got turned down. Not to mention the continuous collaboration I had going on with colleagues from other offices across the globe, and other interns in other departments.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really really enjoyed it. It has been an incredible experience where I have not only learnt so much about the company, culture and teams, but I have also developed the most I have professionally compared to any other experience. The culture is great, which made it that much more enjoyable. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and very generous with their time.

What advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
Make sure you have a good understanding of what Bloomberg does, who their clients are, and the role of the department you are applying to. It does help if you can speak to someone in the company, for example through linkedin, which will help give you these insights.
