Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

my day involves getting to the yard and meeting with my gang which we then head out to the quarry to fill up and then begin our jobs. I get the equipment off the wagon and load the tarmac into the wheelbarrow while helping to tidy up site after works are complete.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme as it is a really well rounded apprenticeship and helps you with the transition from school to work life. The mentors are great teachers as well as good friends.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve learnt a lot of new skills since being on the apprenticeship. They involve physical strength and practical works as well as knowledge on practical work life skills.

It is well structured programme with support from work and college while out on site as well as in learning weeks.

I am constantly receiving feedback and support from my employer on how to improve my knowledge and skills as well as any support from any issues.

With the qualification I am working towards, it helps to provide more information and knowledge about the work and how it is completed rather than just learning as you go.
