Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I really enjoy being a part of BAE Systems. I usually start at 9am & finish around 5pm. The daily life & the work life balance is great & I have made great professional relationships. I've had the opportunity to travel to different sights & really broaden my network, as well as my confidence & interpersonal skills.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme. You get to experience 4 completely different placements to discover different areas of the business & discover where your skillset is best placed in time for your exit role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have massively increased in confidence, as well as built on my communication skills. I have also massively increased my ability with IT, including Microsoft Excel. I have realised I am best in a people-facing role as I have great interpersonal skills, which have been developed here.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The placement rotations so far have been great, we all get moved at the same time & the delivery of the learning is all well organised too,

How much support do you receive from your employer?

There's always a lot of support from my employer. We get assigned a skills coach who is really easy to talk to & is really supportive throughout for anything we need. I find myself having questions regularly & they are really responsive & willing to help.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We receive a lot of support from the training provider side of the apprenticeship. On average we have one delivery session day every 6 weeks. We then get set an assignment that is very well structured & explained throughout the document. Also, if we need additional help we have a lot of support from our skills coaches who usually respond really quickly.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have found all aspects of the learning to be very linked to my role in my placement so far. Such as ,building on professionalism, understanding the importance of policies in the workplace etc.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a lot of professional networking events, as well as open days, conference days, away days & site tours etc to get involved in. I'd say there could be more social activities or sports teams though.

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?

Yes

Why?

The work life balance & level of support you get here is second to none. You're also encouraged to move around & discover different areas of the business & I've never seen that as the norm anywhere else.
