Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

I worked alongside two different teams, TMT and Real Estate, where I was able to get a great insight into the firm and the work that they complete for their clients. I was trusted to work on both pre-set matters, as well as cases that the firm was conducting at the time.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

I was able to learn more about the role of a trainee solicitor and the tasks that they are trusted with. Talking to both current trainees and partners of the firm gave me different insights into the work that is completed, but both showed the value of the training programme for the firm.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I was able to develop my understanding of the work that an international law firm conducts. I was also able to develop my researching skills, as I was tasked with conducting research for the firm. I also developed my proofreading skills, as I was tasked with reviewing contracts and showing where I thought there were red flags that needed to be highlighted.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The firm was very welcoming and collaborative. There was no point during the scheme that I felt I could not ask others for support and help. Throughout the scheme, I felt comfortable talking to partners, who were happy to tell me about the work that they complete and give me advice so that I could improve.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation scheme, as I was able to gain a strong insight into the work completed by a trainee and was trusted with completing actual work during my time there. A highlight for me was being told that work that I completed was sufficient in its current form to be sent to a client.

Carry out research on the firm and understand that your approach should differ for each office. Dentons are known for their polycentric approach, where there is not one global culture, but each office is different. Try and find which office best suits you and tailor your application to that.
