Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My job as a surveyor is mostly spent on site using different pieces of surveying equipment, picking up data which is then post-processed on a laptop, which can be done from home or in the office.
I use a total station, GPR, GNSS receiver and RD kit most days on site and will soon be using CAD and N4ce on my laptop for post-processing.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I enjoy my role as it keeps me active and moving around on site and travelling around a lot which I like to do. It also has a nice split to it, where when you are not on site you are often home working from a laptop, which I enjoy as well.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt almost all new skills in my apprenticeship. I was completely new to surveying so most concepts and equipment that I have learnt about or learnt to use were new to me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Although I am the first geospatial surveyor apprentice that NG Bailey has had, the course feels well-structured and organised.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
NG Bailey provides ample support in all areas of my work and personal life, from a company car to benefits that give you gym and supermarket discounts.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The training provider I have is great. My tutor at the college I go to is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They always take time to give extra support.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The course is very well-rounded. I am taught about lots of different theory topics within geospatial surveying at college some of which don't directly relate to my current role. However, they give me knowledge that I may go on to utilise later in my career.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, NG Bailey offers lots of different opportunities like volunteering, charity sports events and social meet-ups so employees from all around the country can meet.
