Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a Packaging Technologist at Unilever, my role is to support the development, specification and continuous improvement of packaging used across the ice cream portfolio. My key duties
include translating product and business requirements into fit-for-purpose packaging solutions; coordinating packaging trials and factory testing; assessing pack performance (e.g., product protection, quality, line efficiency and consumer experience); and supporting technical documentation such as specifications, artwork/print requirements and change control.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my role as it gives me the opportunity to cover a wide range of tasks, work on innovation projects for exciting new product developments while improving my technical skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learnt a great deal about project management, driving the innovation from a packaging perspective. On top of this i've learnt lots of technical based skills as well as CAD.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Unilever provided lots of support in our personal teams however the UK wide support did lack slightly for my site as there was no one appointed to manage apprentices specifically.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We get amazing support from Sheffield as our modules directly correspond with the tasks we need to do at work.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

With a packaging degree i feel that I will be more confident to make decisions that could impact on product launches

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Lots of extra curricular events such as football, badmintom, netball, running, trim trial, tennis, rugby, darts, pool, arts and crafts, baking.
