Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
As a part‑qualified CIMA finance professional, I have continued to build a strong and consistent track record in budget management and forecasting throughout my Level 4 Finance Apprenticeship. I regularly support financial planning activities by producing accurate forecasts, monitoring variances, and providing clear insights that support effective financial control and decision‑making.
A key strength of my role is working closely with customer development and marketing teams. By partnering with stakeholders outside of finance, I am able to translate financial data into meaningful insights, helping teams understand performance, assess risks, and make informed commercial decisions. This collaborative approach has strengthened cross‑functional working and ensured financial considerations are embedded into wider business planning.
I have developed a solid, in‑depth understanding of accounting standards and have applied this knowledge directly within my analytical workstreams. Through hands‑on experience, I have ensured that accounting principles are accurately integrated into reporting and analysis, improving data integrity, audit readiness, and overall compliance. This attention to detail has helped reinforce strong financial controls and increased confidence in the numbers being reported.
Throughout the apprenticeship, I have demonstrated the ability to make well‑founded, evidence‑based decisions by combining technical accounting knowledge with practical business insight. My approach has contributed to improved reporting accuracy, supported governance requirements, and aligned financial outputs with business objectives.
Overall, my Level 4 Finance Apprenticeship has strengthened both my technical competence and my ability to influence decision‑making within the business. I have continued to progress toward full CIMA qualification while delivering tangible value through accurate reporting, strong control frameworks, and effective stakeholder engagement.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my Level 4 Finance Apprenticeship as it allows me to combine my strong interest in maths with my ability to work confidently with numbers in a practical, real‑world setting. I find satisfaction in analysing data, building forecasts, and understanding the financial story behind business performance. Using numerical insight to influence decisions is both challenging and rewarding, and it plays directly to my strengths.
The apprenticeship also provides exposure to a wide range of interesting and impactful projects. I enjoy working on varied analytical workstreams that require critical thinking, problem‑solving, and attention to detail, particularly when applying accounting standards to improve reporting accuracy and strengthen controls. These opportunities continuously develop my technical knowledge while keeping the role engaging and dynamic.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of teams, including Customer Development, Marketing, and Data. Working alongside talented professionals across the business has broadened my commercial understanding and allowed me to see how finance supports wider strategic objectives. The strong working relationships I have built make the role both enjoyable and motivating, as I am able to contribute meaningful insights while learning from others’ expertise.
Overall, the apprenticeship offers the ideal balance of technical development, hands‑on experience, and collaborative working — making it an environment in which I feel motivated, challenged, and genuinely passionate about progressing my finance career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Throughout my apprenticeship, I have developed both new skills and strengthened existing ones. A key area of development has been forecasting, where I have learnt how to anticipate costs, assess trends, and build forward‑looking projections to support planning and decision‑making. This has improved my ability to understand financial drivers and highlight potential risks and opportunities at an early stage.
I have also strengthened my analytical skills by using numerical data to review performance, investigate variances, and explain outcomes in a clear and structured way. This has enhanced my confidence in working with large data sets and drawing meaningful conclusions that support stakeholders across the business.
In addition, the role has improved my ability to work well under pressure and think on my feet. I regularly respond to changing information, tight deadlines, and ad‑hoc requests, which has developed my adaptability and problem‑solving skills. I am now more comfortable making informed decisions quickly while maintaining accuracy and control.
Overall, the apprenticeship has significantly enhanced my technical finance skills, commercial awareness, and ability to communicate financial insights effectively, enabling me to add greater value in my role.
