The job role is a blend of on the job learning, university work, and increasing responsibilities with understanding of the job.
No two days are identical, one day you can be walking about site to gain information relevant for sub-contractor valuations, the next you can be sitting in with a planner trying to make sure that progress is on target.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The program that I am on gives lots of opportunity for development, the people who I am working with on a day to day basis are mostly enthusiastic about their roles and always happy to lend a hand with learning.
The industry standard is that apprentices are left to either sink or swim, however with KIER I have always felt supported and encouraged to develop myself into the best version of myself that I can be.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The job role that I have undertaken is unlike anything that I have done in my previous working life, so I have definitely learned and developed new skills. The most important take away from this question is that I have been supported in learning and developing these skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is a mix, some elements are well organised/structured others would be better if reviewed. That being said, if some elements of the programme are not working, we are encouraged to speak out and made to feel comfortable in doing so.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As an apprentice I can say that I have received any and all support that I have required in order to progress on my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

With regards to University, the tool are all provided in order to succeed, however some elements could be improved upon such as making the relevant information more simple to access.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification that I am working to definitely helps to understand roles of different departments and even how to carry out some of the roles of other departments, however the bulk of the work that you do as a QS is not what is taught at University.
The training provider gives a good understanding of the underlying principals of why we do certain things, but does not train us on how to carry out or work, this is left to the dedication of the student and mentor.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many extra-curricular activities that KIER puts on for its staff. These can range from site nights out to company sponsored events. There is always something going on off the job that helps to foster working relationships outside of work.

Why?
I have developed both as an individual and as a professional whilst working with KIER. In short, they are the best company that I have ever worked for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
Be yourself, KIER is about bringing your true self to work and recruiters can tell people who put on a show for an interview, just be yourself.
