Vacation Schemer Review

I was a Vacation Schemer in the TMT team for 2 weeks. I interacted with various people across the office and my team. I worked on tasks in commercial contracts, data privacy and cybersecurity.

Got a great insight into Dentons and how they function. Spoke to various people and understood the various routes offered by the firm to qualify. Insight into their inclusion and diversity networks, sustainable practices and pro-bono work was especially meaningful.

During my vacation scheme at Dentons, I developed my professional communication, relationship-building, and analytical skills.
I improved my communication by tailoring my approach to different audiences, ensuring my written and verbal contributions were clear, concise, and commercially aware. I also strengthened my relationship-building skills through networking and collaborative work, learning the importance of active listening and building rapport with colleagues across the firm.
In addition, I enhanced my analytical skills by approaching tasks in a more structured way, identifying key issues and focusing on practical, client-oriented solutions.

The company culture at Dentons’ Milton Keynes office was excellent—very inclusive, collegiate, and welcoming. The smaller office created a close-knit environment where everyone knew each other, with strong interaction across teams and jurisdictions.
Despite the demands of the work, the atmosphere remained positive and supportive, even during busy periods. Social activities, such as office events and initiatives like the Easter egg hunt, further contributed to a friendly and engaging workplace.

I thoroughly enjoyed the scheme. It provided a valuable and engaging introduction to the firm, allowing me to gain a real understanding of the work, culture, and people. The combination of practical tasks, networking opportunities, and informal interactions made the experience both enjoyable and insightful.

My main advice would be to trust the process and be yourself throughout the application. Dentons places real emphasis on finding candidates who will fit well within the firm’s collaborative and inclusive culture, so it’s important to demonstrate your genuine personality alongside your skills and experience.
