Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I work as a Trainee Forestry Consultant, supporting the planning, management, and delivery of forestry and woodland projects across a range of sites. My role involves a combination of office‑based and site‑based work, allowing me to develop practical and technical skills under the guidance of senior colleagues.
On a day‑to‑day basis, I assist with woodland management, woodland creation schemes, and harvesting operations management. This includes carrying out site visits, collecting field data, identifying constraints, and supporting the preparation of maps, reports, grant applications, and budgets. I also help with operational tasks such as liaising with contractors, reviewing risk assessments and method statements, and monitoring works on site to ensure they are completed safely and to specification.
In addition, I contribute to client communication, tendering processes, timber sales, and administrative tasks, while continuing to build my professional knowledge of silviculture, legislation, health and safety, and sustainable forest management.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find it both engaging and rewarding, as it offers a good balance between academic learning and practical, real‑world experience. Overall, it has been a very positive and worthwhile experience.
