I am on the Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship Scheme, rotating in a different cyber security team every year, developing different skills and different experiences within these different teams. No day is the same and it changes based on the team I am in, but at a high level, I work with the relevant stakeholders to help manage cyber threats at Unilever.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme is blended with 4 days at work and one day at university, giving me the best balance of work and study. I enjoy the rotation aspect every year, helping me develop and broaden my skillset across different teams.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed many skills during my time on the apprenticeship skills. Some key skills include communication skills, stakeholder engagement and my problem solving skills.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well structured, giving us apprentices one day at university whilst having 4 days at work. I am provided a "career sponsor" who acts as a mentor during my apprenticeship scheme, who assists with any queries, university issues or any issues at the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a vast amount of support form my employer. I am provided a "career sponsor" who acts as a mentor during my apprenticeship scheme, who assists with any queries, university issues or any issues at the workplace. There are many resources internally to help with wellbeing in the workplace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive great support from my training provider when working towards my degree. We have quarterly catchups and reviews to discuss my progress and wellbeing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

During my qualification, I learn about the relevant techniques, systems and methodologies that I am able to implement during my projects that I am working on.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At my workplace there are many extra-curricular activities we are able to get involved with. For example, there is a weekly 7-aside football session I am able to get involved in. I am also part of the outreach team, which helps promote Unilever to emerging talent.

I would recommend Unilever to a friend as the apprenticeship scheme is a great place to learn and develop new skills whilst feeling well supported.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
The main tip I would give to others applying at Unilever is to research the company. Understand the values and any recent information announced as part of your application to show you are curious and interested in the scheme.
