Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The role is a mix of office based work and lab work. I have had the opportunity to get involved in company wide projects, take on additional responsibility and have independence in my work. One day a week is dedicated to my university studies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I think the programme is enjoyable and hugely beneficial. I have learnt on the job quickly with lots of support from my colleagues- I feel I have learnt more than would have been possible at university- however, the apprentice cohort is quite small, and it can be difficult to connect with people, especially in the first few months. The standard of the university work is also very variable dependent on the lecturer.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There is a huge amount that is learnt on the job, and if you have a particular interest/skill you would like to learn, it is within reason facilitated.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Initially, there is little communication from the university, but overall there is good structure and the upcoming work is predictable. The structure/rotations at work are manager/team dependent, and often fluid dependent on the workload of the team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The culture is positive, the scheme is incredibly beneficial and rewarding. Once you've finished your apprenticeship there are many different roles it is possible to pursue, as well as lots of opportunities to network.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
To remember that you're interviewing to be a part of a wider team, not just the role in isolation. Being well rounded, adaptable and personable is as important as knowing the science.
