Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a software engineering apprentice at BAE, I have been apart of numerous teams and have had different responsibilities and roles within each. This has allowed me to develop my knowledge and skills in a variety of areas. In my current placement, a brief overview of my role is: the development, production and testing of a bespoke utility application whilst working with a team using Agile techniques.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme as it has allowed me to become a well-rounded software engineer, with skills and knowledge in most topics/areas. I also really enjoy solving problems, as it allows me to create innovative solutions to complex problems.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed skills such as: communication, time-management, problem-solving, C++, python, understanding the software development life cycle and more.
I have learnt skills such as: java, javascript, typescript, cloud computing, A.I., architecture design and much more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Overall the programme has been very well structured, for example, I know what my next placements are and when I will be changing placements far in advance.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive lots of support from the company, there are multiple people I can speak to about issues or problems. In addition, there are regular check-ins with a skills coach to check on my wellbeing and progress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Some support is received, it varies per lecturer, however if there is a lack of response from the university the company get involved and ensure all feedback is actioned.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification gives me the theory behind the practical actions I complete in my role, giving me a deeper understanding of how code/requirements/design... should be structured and implemented.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many activities to get involved in, mostly professional networking events but some social/charitable. There are also some social events organised by the local apprenticeship council.
