Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I remove and refit vehicle trim and components required to complete repairs. This includes a wide variety of tasks such as replacing interior trims, electrical components and suspension.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my job. I’ve always preferred working with my hands and I like the variety that this role provides.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’m half way into my apprenticeship. I still have a lot to learn but my knowledge and skills have improved loads since I started.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The Steer program is very well organised. All apprentices have monthtly meetings with the academy development manager to go over progress, upcoming college block release etc. I’ve never once felt like I’ve been missing information.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I’ve felt incredibly supported since the moment I started the apprenticeship. It very much feels like steer wants to get the best out of you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The college provides good support. Most of my contact has been through the steer apprentice manager rather than the college directly but the contact I have had with the college has been good.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

College is very helpful for understanding how systems work from the theoretical side. I’ve found it has helped me a lot in areas such as electrical testing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There aren’t many extra curricular activities. We go for Christmas dinner every year which is fun.

Yes
Why?
The support has been better than I expected from an apprenticeship. I can’t imagine many apprenticeship programs are better than Steer’s
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Steer Automotive?
If you enjoy fixing things and like a bit of variety then you’ll probably enjoy the met apprenticeship
