Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

4/5
My role involves me to help support multiple disciplines in the aim to get both the manufacturing side as well as the engineering and products ready for scalable production. This means that my day to day can be very different to each other which is nice. Not to mention that I have also been able to take control of my own projects like making and design test boxes for products including buying in the right components to make the circuit board I had designed.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

4/5
I enjoy my programme as a whole as the workplace is a nice area to work in not to mention the mentors I have as well as other co-workers are great. Not to mention that being involved in the early careers group is another great benefit to working at L3. The training I receive is also quite good however there as been many questions about the future and current development of myself which due to a multitude of reasons like the EC lead joining at the same time as myself has caused it to get quite confusing however they have tried their best to clear it up over time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

4/5
I have learnt many new skills due to my mentor making a development plan not to mention having a full-time course at an engineering training facility to allow me to get key hands-on experience. Not to mention there has been multiple early career related training been taking place where external training companies have come in to deliver talks to us like student to professional which helps people coming out from education backgrounds adjust into the company better. However as stated earlier there has been multiple questions about the future development opportunities which has got quite confusing even when having opportunities in writing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

3/5
From the day-to-day development, it is very organized due to having a development plan as well as rotation around the business which is key. However, due to a multitude of reasons the HR side of the programme can get quite confusing like stated about future development and plans for the future but also the fact that there are no structured pay increases like other apprenticeships. It more relies on merit, minimum wage or age-related increases.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer allowing me to go into college on a Friday if needed to catch up on work which I have luckily not needed however it is a great opportunity to have. Not to mention that I have multiple 121 with both my mentor as well as the early careers lead.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

3/5
I receive some support from my training provider however depending on the tutor it can vary in quality. They have tried their best to help accommodate my access to work which has been a great help.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
Both the hands-on experience as well as the education side has helped be greatly allowing me to both take on my own projects using what I have learned to help be carry the task out to a good standard but also the hands on and being able to know how to use a drill safely and what to do etc.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
L3Harris has a great social side especially with the early careers which can range from planned days out monthly or pub quizzes that are bi-weekly not to mention more formal occupations which include early careers networking events with other people from other areas of the business within the uk.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend L3Harris to a friend?

Yes

Why?

It’s in a great business sector as well as being a great name to have on a Cv. Not to mention that for the most part the support from the business is great as well as it being a nice place to work and having a great social aspect.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to L3Harris?

Have a well drafted cover letter as well as CV not to mention having great recommendations always helps. Also having community driven extra curriculars are very sort after like volunteering and help out the community.
