Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
The first year of this apprenticeship is college based at ICAT where you complete coursework, gain practical experience and sit exams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
As a mature student it is difficult to re-adjust to a schooling environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The content of this course is really interesting. Its a rewarding feeling when you pass an exam or learn a new skill in the hangar. The entire course is intended to give you a solid understanding of how aircraft work and the maintenance required. It is beginner friendly with an intention to get everyone to the same level before the second year.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The college content is very well structured with a set timetable for learning and exams for the entire year. The employer however is inconsistent leaving apprentices often unsure of what might be happening.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The company provides a fantastic set of benefits such as, great healthcare, mental health support and a good pension.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The tutors are very helpful and go above and beyond to give extra support to individuals. However, there is a lack of quiet individual study time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The content learnt in the first year is essential to continue into the second year. You learn a lot in such a short amount of time which is a rewarding feeling.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There is a lack of sporting activities available to women in the college due to lack of interest.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a fantastic opportunity to change your career and step into the world of aviation.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
I'd be sure that you are willing to live in city centre shared student halls and attend school 8:30-4:30 for the first year. Boeing is a great company to work for with a great culture. The career and the learning is definitely worth it; however the first year is not for everyone.
