Currently, college environment learning the theory for aircraft maintenance. In August, will begin working on aircraft on a day-to-day basis.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Developed existing skills of working on aircraft due to previously carrying out voluntary work maintaining aircraft. Also, learning the theory for the first time and aligning that with previous knowledge has been a great experience.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Modules that have to be completed for the theory side of the apprenticeship are done so in an order to not overwhelm apprentices due to the scale of learning required. Also, all the theory is carried out prior to the on job training.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There are multiple channels to receive support from our employer either directly through a manager or other services within the business
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is limited contact between our training provider and apprentices however, there are channels apprentices can access to request support. Also, during the first year we are learning in a college who act as a support network which will cease once on job training beings. At this point our training providers support should become more prevalent.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The apprenticeship training provider currently has a limited role in helping us perform better. However, as previously stated, the theory is currently being taught in a college and the lecturers are currently helping us to perform better in our role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Nothing currently due to apprentices being advised to focus on completing the theory in the first year. Once that has been completed, there are opportunities within Boeing that can be taken e.g. STEM ambassador network.

Would you recommend Boeing UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Boeing offers great opportunities to progress in the company and in turn the aviation industry as a whole. Also, the opportunity to work with a group of like minded people all supporting each other to reach a common goal due to apprentices not competing for jobs.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boeing UK?
Get involved with aviation where possible. I volunteered at a local charity which restores ex-military helicopters which helped develop my skills and knowledge of aircraft, assisting me in my application, interviews and theory work for the apprenticeship. I was lucky with having a charity which restores aircraft local to me, however many aviation museums around the UK also offer volunteer roles. If you are unsure just reach out to charities, museums and other organisations.
