Corporate Communications Executive Intern Review

On the internal side of my role, I supported the Communications Manager to project manage, implement and maintain the Pernod Ricard UK internal communications strategy through various core initiatives, including the delivery of internal CSR events and activities and maintaining corporate identity. Managing the company intranet was also a key part of my role and included day-to-day content management, management of weekly news, and co-ordinating input across the business. I was also a member of the CSR Action Team with responsibility for internal CSR events and Pernod Ricard’s EMEA Responsible Party programme. I also worked alongside the Comms Manager and Experiential Team in the production of Company Conferences.
On the external side of communications, I had an additional list of responsibilities including weekly analysis of media coverage, developing a system to manage all company print and online media subscriptions, and the day-to-day management of @pernodricardUK, working closely with the Comms Manager for approval on all posts on Instagram and Twitter. I also participated in PR agency responses to campaign briefs and was involved in press release creation.

I had significant responsibility throughout my placement, which increased as I became more comfortable in my role. I felt trusted throughout the year to fulfil tasks and also share my opinion with the team and external stakeholders. Pernod Ricard's entrepreneurial spirit was clear throughout the year, one of my favourite parts of the placement.

I felt supported from the get-go, from HR, my team, and colleagues from other parts of the business. I had a comprehensive handover from the previous intern and received guidance from my manager and team once the previous intern had left. I was then encouraged to push myself out my comfort zone with challenging work throughout the year, but could always ask for help if I needed it.

Pernod Ricard's convivial culture was one of the key factors in making my year such an enjoyable experience. Everyone is friendly and approachable, making for a really great office environment.

The experience has certainly exceeded my own expectations and I’ve achieved and learnt far more than I thought I would. I’ve learnt a significant amount about corporate working practices, Communications, the Drinks industry, and feel more confident about what I value and where my skills lie in a working environment. It has also been really great fun and I've met some amazing people throughout the year. I would highly recommend the internship.
