Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work supporting the officers mainly in the animal health and trading standards teams but get to experience most things in the public protection area. I work through a lot of admin, emailing, putting on processes, transcribing etc. I am in constant communication with others and always learning new things.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the course to be really interesting with broad subjects I get to explore.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my Microsoft package skills in all areas, been able to improve my public speaking skills and learnt how to use a multitude of new systems to perform my role.

There is a clear path for me to follow and everyone around me is very supportive.

They are incredibly supportive and open to ideas where I can help or learn.

I have a catchup with my assessor every 3 weeks to go over my progress and what I can do next.

There are plenty of opportunities to be social with other members of the team and within the working space lot's of chance to get involved.

Would you recommend Wiltshire council to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I never thought I would work for the council, and since working there it's the best job I've had. Everyone is so supportive, there is such a wide range of opportunities to learn new things and grow and I have made some real friends there. I feel I've learnt so much in such a short time and can see a future for myself I wouldn't have thought about before.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wiltshire council?
To be completely themselves, be open and friendly and have confidence in yourself that even if you don't know everything about the role you can always learn. Having a can-do attitude is very important I would say.
